There are over 750 asylum seekers in Sri Lanka from 10 different countries. Majority of them are from Pakistan and Afghanistan. Claretian ministry for refugees team, which consists: Frs. Surendrakumar CMF, Ravikhanth CMF and Steevan CMF are engaging in a ministry with the Christian asylum seekers from the group who are residing in and around Negombo region. There are about sixty Christian families and they look to be an unwanted group for many organizations working for refugees.
The aim of the Claretian ministry for Refugees team is therefore to bring together these scattered Christian group and to nourish them spiritually and materially in a way possible. Celebration of Holy Eucharist in their own languages has been highly appreciated and programmes, such as: Christmas Carol and Independence Day celebrations are well organized by the team. The team also with the help of many provides a bag of dry rations for each family in every two months. Amidst, so much of difficulties and challenges, the Claretian ministry for Refugees team is happy to continue this ministry further.
