St. Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation celebrated its annual Assembly from the 8th to the 12th  of April 2024 at St. Claret Seminary, Kattuwa, Sri Lanka.

The Assembly began in the evening of April 8th with the inaugural Eucharistic celebration presided by the Delegation’s Major Superior Fr. Joseph Jeyaseelan CMF.

On the second day of the Assembly, three resource persons enlightened the participants with their input and reflections on the current socio-political trends (Mrs. Bhavani Fonseka of Center for Policy Alternatives – Colombo), the current ecclesial trends (Fr. Quintus Fernando, Rector of the National Seminary), and current Congregational trends (Fr. Efren Limpo, General Secretary).

Then the Assembly moved to the part on reports. These reports concentrated on the overall reality of the Delegation in a general way and by prefectures. A major part of the reporting included a mid-point evaluation of the Action Plan of the 2022-2025 triennium, based on the 2022 Assembly Exhortation Brothers in community, Vanguards in Mission.

In the last 2 days, several topics affecting the life and mission of the Delegation were discussed in a synodal way.

The Assembly also spent sufficient time in updating, discussing, and sharing reflections about the new foundation in South Sudan as part of the mission of St. Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation.

All the professed members including the professed students from other major organisms who are in formation in Sri Lanka took part in this Assembly. The Assembly drew to a close in the afternoon of April 12th with the concluding reflection of the Major Superior titled “Towards a hope-filled future with rooted audacity & audacious rootedness”.
