A serious situation has arisen in the country due to the easy availability of various harmful drugs that infect even children in secondary schools. Many kinds of addictions including media addiction have become quite prevalent. Responding to this situation, as an initial step two residential training workshops were organized by the Claretians in the months of July and August. The 5-day workshop was offered to 2 groups of around 70 diocesan priests, male and female religious, major seminarians, and lay persons. A group of four trainers came from India. The resource team was led by Rev. Dr. Francis Xavier Nelson, who is an expert in the field. Three other short programs were offered in the Claretian novitiate house, Aligambay Parish (Diocese of Batticaloa) and in a school in Ampara district.
