VAROD Continues Its Journey

Claret Kinder Development Programme: The VAROD team organized the Claret Kinder Development Programme and Sponsor a Child Programme as their last programme of the year 2017 on the 22nd of December. The programme was held at the Co-operative Society hall, Kilinochchi. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Gerry Anannthasangiri from the Sri Lankan embassy to Canada. At the event, the children exhibited their talents, skills and individuality through various activities, such as drama, dance, singing, etc. At the end of the programme, the group from the Sri Lankan embassy in Canada visited the VAROD premises and spent some time with the children at the boys and girls homes.

Disability Sport & Recreation: On the 28th of February, 2018, the Disability Sports and Recreation Organization from Australia organized a cycle of power sports events to help the differently-abled persons to deliver themselves from the horrendous memories of war. The highlight of the event was the shared experience that ‘disability is not powerlessness and poverty but power and richness’. The event was also coloured with a wheelchair handball match, a wheelchair basketball match, the grant of wheelchairs to 17 differently-abled persons, and the grant of livelihood assistance to some beneficiaries of VAROD. Around 300 participants witnessed the event.
Epilepsy Day Celebration: Epilepsy Day was celebrated on the 8th of February, 2018 at VAROD with a seminar conducted by Mr. Suman, a physiotherapist. The participants were educated on the different kinds of epilepsy, the symptoms, first aid, treatments, and ways of protection.
Down Syndrome Day Celebration: A seminar on Down Syndrome was also held on the 21st March, 2018 by the physiotherapist Mr. Suman. Explaining the facts, he also pointed out the help that we could render to the beneficiaries in VAROD who are living with Down Syndromes.
