VAROD at the National Para Olympic 2022, Sri Lanka
VAROD (Vanni Rehabilitation for the Differently Abled) is one of the missions of the Claretian Missionaries of St. Joseph Vaz Independent Delegation in Sri Lanka which continues to serve the vulnerable, the differently-abled in northern Sri Lanka for almost 12 years. It aims to empower, uplift, and develop the lives of persons with disabilities so that they can lead decent lives.
Twenty-nine VAROD athletes took part in the National Para Olympic 2022 held on June 28 to 29, 2022 at Sugadathasa Stadium in Colombo. They were among two hundred athletes from different part of Sri Lanka who participated in different sports events and won seventeen medels: four gold medals, four silver medals and nine bronze medals.
The VAROD junior women’s team bagged the championship round and qualified to compete in the upcoming Asian Para Olympic. Ms. Kayalvili received the award of best woman athlete in the junior category, and she too qualified for the Asian Para Olympic Games 2022.
