Sri Lanka Region Becomes a Dependent Delegation
February 2, 2012, Feast Day of the Presentation of the Lord will be registered in the annals of the Claretian Congregation in Sri Lanka as a day to be remembered as the Sri Lankan Claretian Mission was raised as a Dependent Delegation in the Province of Germany.
The Eucharistic celebration marking the beginning of this historical event was presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio in Sri Lanka His Excellency Joseph Spiteri. Among the con-celebrants and distinguished guests present were the General Prefect of Formation Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, and the Provincial Superior of Germany Fr. Stefan Wolf. The decree of erection by Fr. General was read out officially by Fr. Stefan Wolf. The new government of the Dependent Delegation of Sri Lanka consists of Fr. Joy Mariaratnam (Delegation Superior), Fr. SatheeshSaverimuthu (Econome) and Fr. Rohan Dominic (Secretary).This year also marks the twentieth anniversary of the first foundation of the Congregation in Sri Lanka. At present there are 35 professed members in the delegation which includes 27 priests and 3 deacons. There are also 30 postulants in different stages of initial formation. Rev. Fr. JeyarajRassiah, SJ, the president of CMRS, many Major Superiors, Priests, Religious and friends participated in the joyous event.
