Annual Sports Meet at VAROD
VAROD (Vanni Rehabilitation for the Differently Abled) is one of the missions of the Claretian in Vanni, Sri Lanka. VAROD annually holds sports meet for the differently ables in order to support them to be integrated with the society, to acquire vital social skills, develop independence, and become empowered. On the other hand Sports for persons with disabilities also act as a tool to boost their confidence and improve their self-esteem.
The VAROD’s sports meet for its beneficiaries under both Institutional and Community based rehabilitation was held on the 30th of April 2022, where Mr. P. Sarathchandra the District Secretary of Vavuniya as a Chef guest, Rev. Fr. Milfer Vaz CMF the Vicar, Consultor, and the prefect of Apostalate, Dr. Y. Nanthagoban the Dean for the faculty of business studies/ Vavuniya and Rev. Fr. Thevarajah Koduthor the Dean of Vavuniya Deanery as Special guests, Rev. Fr. S. Jeganathan CMF, Superior of Claret Neyaham, and the Parish priest of Pambaimadhu, the Brigade Commandor of 562nd Brigade Mr.Senaka Premawansa and Mr. Pushpakumara the OIC of Poovarasankulam Police as Distinguish guests as well as the other invitees charmed the event with their presence.
270 beneficiaries as athletes took part in this sports meet, where 59 sports events had been designed especially for the disables. This even was arranged and organized by the VAROD.
